What I learned in this class:
I learned so much in this class. Coming in to this class, I was not a fan of lighting. I always found it difficult and just annoying to deal with it. After being in this class and learning more about how to tweak lights to get the look you want, I realized that I actually like lighting and the challenges that it presents. I had never actually thought about how technical lighting was and how many different sizes, shapes, and level of intensity were involved.
I learned how to light different scenarios and genres. For example, with my short scene, I filmed the genre film noir. There are a lot of harsh shadows and saturated colors involved. I also learned throughout the class, how to light for other genres. I was really interested in Holly's lighting assignment. She was assigned R&B-Rap music video genre. I liked getting to see how to experiment with different gels on the lights. We also used a cucaloris to cast shapes on the back wall in the scene. Experimenting with different colors and gels was a lot of fun. I learned more about daylight and tungsten, along with other light and color temperatures.
Over all, this course was a great learning experience for me. I think my favorite part about it was that it changed my view about lighting completely and I realized that I actually like it and would like to work more with it in the future.
